  • is the beverage director and mixologist at The Ranchers Steak and Seafood in the mountain resort town of Ruidoso, New Mexico.

Ed began his career in the food and beverage industry in 1983, at the young age of 18 years old and has held many positions since, from owner/operator, to alcohol distribution sales manager, to general manager and head bartender. In his current role since 2015 at The Ranchers, Ed leads the menu concepting and beverage design to establish and embody the atmosphere of the restaurant and lounge. One of his signatures is creating house-made infused alcohols such as, hibiscus vodka, roasted tomato with Hatch Green Chile vodka and smoked bacon bourbon. With these infusions, he’s able to do weekly and nightly drink specials that either compliment the dinner special or has a theme that corresponds with pop culture, while still honoring the classics. For example, an annual fan favorite is the Shark Week margarita which features an ocean blue coconut margarita with a shark shaped lime garnish attacking a fish. The customer gets to add the blood (grenadine).

Working as a merchandiser and a sales representative for 15 years with National Distributing Company, Ed was able to learn about a variety of alcohols and spirits through hands-on sales, research and meetings with distillers, winemakers and brewers from a variety of national and global beverage companies. It was there that he knew he wanted to turn his knowledge into his craft and get back behind the bar.

While at The Ranchers, Ed has competed in three statewide bartending competitions where he has placed in the top three. These competitions are scored on creativity, speed, charisma, station cleanliness and of course, taste. He plans to compete in his fourth statewide competition in September 2023. His very first drink competition was mocktail themed, geared to expecting mothers. It was against the neighboring county. Krause won first place.

Ed has lived in Ruidoso, NM since 1994 and is proud to call the village home. Over the years, Ed has participated in a variety of community-based activities such as the Keep Ruidoso Beautiful clean up with his family, volunteering at the Ruidoso Humane Society, and preparing meals for first responders battling wildfires in area. He also appears periodically on a local radio morning show where he is interviewed and speaks about cocktail creation and what he has planned for the upcoming menu
